Support Area Q. Can I use more than one computer with my NYN connection ? A. NYN wireless connections provide one Ethernet connection to one PC. While it is possible to connect multiple computers to this connection, we do not assist customers in setting up home networks. Some versions of Windows have Internet Connection Sharing features. Instructions for using this feature can be found on Microsoft's website. Q. Can I share my connection with my neighbors ? A. We wholly encourage this! But, you must sign up to become a reseller. We have programs for providing you with bandwidth on a wholesale basis, rather than a flat-rate monthly fee. Please call our offices for more information! Q. Why did I get a faster connection to one website yesterday than I do today ? A. There are a number of explanations for this difference. First and foremost, Internet traffic on the site or network plays a large role in determining access speed. Or perhaps your computer's memory allocation is causing the slower speeds. It is possible to run the test ten times in a row and get ten different results. Nevertheless, NYN still provides the fastest residential Internet access possible. Q. Why am I downloading slowly from sites like Morpheus and Kaaza ? A. Those sites are peer-to-peer file-sharing sites. Even though you are on a wireless connection, the fastest connection possible, the person you are downloading from could be on a slower connection like dial-up or DSL. Q. How do I stop from getting these viruses everyone is talking about ? A. The best answer is Norton Antivirus. Buy it, install it and it will protect you using "Liveupdate" to keep your protection files up to date. If you don't feel like plunking down $75 for that, try AVG from Grisoft, which requires registration and a survey filled out, but is otherwise free. http://www.grisoft.com Q. How do I stop receiving SPAM ?! A. Try SpamNet from Cloudmark, found at http://www.cloudmark.com. We use it internally, and have found it to be great! On another note, NYN is very strict about who it receives emails from. We check every incoming email connection against Blackhole lists for email abusers. If someone tries to send mail using our server, from an IP address that is blackholed, we refuse the connection, since it's probably spam. We process tens of thousands of emails per day, and 3/4 of the emails that come in were spam, before we used this process. Now, about 1/4 of the messages we receive on a daily basis are spam related. That's a big decrease, and one that's worth it for our customers' sanity.
